Hey Anon!
The film is going great so far. A bit of a rough start though. My Production Designer and myself are on good working terms now because the rest of my production group became annoyed with him after he stopped contributing and showing up for meetings- also bad mouthing to my producer about the film . We ended up sending an email to the unit coordinator about it and he obviously spoke to him. My producer, Alex, and myself spoke to the PD over the phone to make sure that he is going to commit, now that he’s going to direct the next assignment which is a documentary (and I get to be the DoP, yay!)
We did all of our internal shots the weekend just gone and next weekend we will be shooting all the external shots where we get to go out onto a field! Unfortunately, I couldn’t be there the whole time due to work commitments which sucked big time because I really wanted to work with the actor. Fortunately though my DoP, Ben, took charge as he knows what Alex and I visualize in this film.
Down sides to this weekends shoot:
- Murdoch gave us two different coloured LED lights; one of them was green which was so annoying.
- As we’re filming on a low budget, we’re trying to not spend a lot. BUT, my PD thought it would be a great idea to hire out a suit for $230.00 for one week. I didn’t find this out until after the suit was bought. Which means next week we have to hire out the same suit and hopefully not damage it. ahhhh
- I’m having some concerns with my directing because this is my first real short film. Ben and Alex worked on the script together (the idea I came up with the first time became too overly processed with input from others, which ended up sounding like a scene from the girl with the dragon tattoo…so we canned it and started out fresh). There was a few times where I would have to ask Ben what was going on because I hadn’t been filled in. But this has been sorted out.
- Not being able to attend all shoots
We’re the first group to start shooting which is nice. One of the other groups in my class had the same actor…in mind. They didn’t confirm his place quick enough and we had him. They were okay with it though.
So yeah hopefully in the next two weeks production should be completed to start POST which may be a challenge because I’m hearing “we’ll fix it in post” everywhere. good times :P

This is one of my favourite scenes in the entire film.
